KEYNOTE OUTLINE
The old business landscape in which today’s organisations grew and succeeded is gone for good. Instead of stability, certainty, simplicity and clarity, we are looking at at least a decade of volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) operating conditions. With this change comes incredible uncertainty and complexity. In the face of these challenges however lies incredible opportunity.
Drawing on Patrick’s background as both a consultant to Australian industry and an accomplished high-altitude mountaineer and expedition leader for the past 15 years, this presentation will fuse conceptual theory with practical experience. Patrick will propose a solution, or antidote, to VUCA that is based on the idea that we all need to become more comfortable with discomfort. In other words, we need to get comfortable getting uncomfortable. If organisations are to survive in this new paradigm, they need a newer approach of working, an approach which is built on an ethos of agility and lightness. It’s an approach known in mountaineering circles as alpine style.
This session is a fun, visual and inspiring way to get participants truly engaged with the content, each other and the VUCA concept.
